Wye Weekend - 19-21.6.14

Solstice weekend.
The weekend before .... you know which festival.
What do you do?

You gather in a gang - minus Mike n me (I'm taking the piccy).

Beware children with guns.

Nervous swans give us a fly past as we wait for the cars to be moved to the bottom of todays river trip.

Tom decides to shoot Kay the dog.

The older lads hint at paddling to the nearest pub (and it's truly nearby) to wait for the 'shuttle bunnies'.

Together at last, full of breakfast, care of Ross on Wye Rowing Club, our hosts last night.
Highly recommended as a place to camp before a canoe trip.
The best EVER hosts!
Thank you Captain Pugwash.

One more piccy of everyone - except me - and we're off.

Howie and Kay.

Jake n Hannah

Happy families.

Family that plays together..
Stays together.

Despite the occasional dispute.

Tip and John.
Tips first canoe trip, II couldn't believe it -

she's a natural.

We found an island to use as our lunch venue.

Lovely spot.

We were all young when we met 30 years ago.

There was less of us then -

so many children

and new faces

have kept us amused.

All good, clean fun.

Here we are then, at the Biblins egress
(not every day you get to use the word).

Hannah and Dave added these shots of the weekend.
Enjoy!!!

Lunch break at Lydbrook

Yat Rapid ......

Now back to my shots again .....

Biblins Youth Campsite, a great spot to camp,

as long as you can brave the angry manager.

Despite Mr Angry marring our stay, we made the most of the peace

and quiet.

We all sorted our food,

and tried to build up the bonfire,

and sat around it

chilling,

making s'mores,

chuckling about nothing

and listening to Jake strumming his guitar (thankfully he doesn't seem to sing).

A lovely, simple evening,

Where kids got sleepy,

dogs conked out,

and Dave fell asleep.

by 11pm we had all turned in.
Ahhhhh,
Bliss.

And off we went again.
Paul, Amanda and Lad have come along for the day,

What a cute trio.
Nice to see Dave awake - Ha Ha

Jamie and Joe ... what are they doing??

Biblins to Monmouth isn't far,

and the water's calm, but the evidence is that it's been much higher.
It was the wettest winter on record.
Our destination today is Redbrook.

We set a slow, and steady pace,

so that we could all take in the gorgeous scenery.

King Jamie.

Foggy doggy takes his first ride in a boat at 16 weeks,

Joe bows to the great and the good.
That'll be me then
: )

This guy didn't seem to notice us.

Nearly there.

Journeys end.

We got off the water into a lovely park.

Sorted ourselves and the boats and headed to the pub.

Then we all headed for our homes and the washing machine.
