Wye Weekend - 26-28.9.14

Our, now traditional, trip to the River Wye went swimmingly this weekend.

Enjoy the images and  occasional, random, comments.

: )

Jamie kayaking the entire trip - for the first time?

Graham and I bounded up the bank like a couple of Gazelles, all so that we could see what this monument was all about. It was strange to think that we must have passed this place tens of times over the last 30 years and never noticed it on it's bankside spot.

The well tended monument commemorates the accidental drowning of a 16 year old boy witnessed by his family who were unable to save him. The tragedy happened on the 14th September 1804; 200 hundred years ago, almost to the week, but not quite.

Hannah took the chance that the lunch break offered, to jump in that lovely 30 year old kayak and take it for a spin. She is a natural, just like her bro.

Foggy decided to use the lunch break to go for a swim;

doggie paddle, by any chance?

Yat Rapid and it's Oggie showing us how it's done. I have to admit he looks mighty cool.

 Happy, smiling people.

Matt, Hannah and Louie checking up on us.

We all 'lined' our boats up the top drop of the rapid.

Dave E showing me how it's done.

After a day on the water,

I get an hour in the water.
HMMMMMM, lovely.

 We love Louie!!!!

Out of the hot tub and away to the Dog and Muffler Pub for an evening meal.
Hannah's toothy smiling ham-n-eggs.

Luke, Jamie and Joe puzzling over the changes that could be made to the menu board.

No rude changes allowed and no chalk.
The pub staff were very sweet, or as I now prefer to say, wee, about it.

Sunday arrived, Tracy felt better after sinking under the weight of a very heavy cold and no mains water in their part of Bristol. It turned out that she had passed the bug onto Luke  who wanted nothing more than to go home and curl up in a snotty ball.

The survivors struck out for a walk, with local history input from Phil. It turned out to be a pleasant Sunday stroll through parts of the Royal Forest Of  Dean that I've never been to before...

A tree stripped up to a height of about 12 feet - Roe deer - probably.

Gottcha!!

Fly Agaric - hallucinogenic fungi.

 Wallow hole - wild bore.

Back at our hosts, the Green Wood Farm, Berry Hill, we wandered around to check out the animals.

 Goats,
Tilly, Louie and Matt.

Ahhhh, what a nice weekend.
