Polperro Thursday 29.9.11

Ahhhhhhhh, the call of the wild - what was that: a movie, a book, something from my childhood that left a gut feeling, but no detail? Weird.

We headed over to LOOE ISLAND.

The water became eerily flat and a distant, sharp line emerged between the land and the island. Ominous thoughts of huge overfalls. Something was holding the water in a huge, still eddy.

We steered  away from the scary 'line' and headed above the island and to the open sea,

making the most of the calm

before the rough?

There were no overfalls.

All was calm meaning that the soft breath of a passing GREY SEAL rang out loud and clear.

We had asked for permission to visit the island. It is privately owned. No, came the firm response from the WARDEN.

Strangely, because we were here at extreme low tides, people were walking from LOOE to LOOE ISLAND. The were waist deep in the water at times. Mind you, they were welcomed onto the beach by the a person we took to be the warden. and were not able to venture further. So why not tell us we could join this group, or at least land as they arrived? Memories of The Fleet earlier this year ....more on that little matter another time.... you would never believe it!

So, we headed back on the rough sea - kinda

Tea break on the way - lovely. Tea break on the way back - YUM!

A gorgeous spot, with the best tea shack I've seen for many years - GO VISIT.

Go drink tea and enjoy TALLAND BAY

It's a short paddle back to Polperro

via the rock hopping opportunities on the way

and the generally sublime views.

Thank goodness, we're almost back to the safety of Polperro Harbour,

The outer harbour is a welcome site,

but not a patch on

the shelter of the inner harbour

and the sight of the house we're staying in - almost - view that is!
