Barging About Brum Saturday 11.9.10

The day was well away by the time the Canal walk was nearing it's end. Quite frankly we were getting a bit bored.

Even the dog is looking bored.

THE CAVELRY ARRIVED TO SAVE US

LAURIE, AMBER AND BEA!!

This is Britains second biggest city, what are the chances of bumping into them once during a festival, let alone twice??

Now that's

AMAZING

We headed off for the Steve McCurry exhibition.

What a clever man. So good with colour; that takes his very good shots to an extreme point.

VERY INSPIRING.

As was the STAFFORDSHIRE HOARD. Everything was smaller than we expected, but exquisite. The stories milling around in my head, after seeing so many artefacts, were numerous and varied. Who has hundreds of gold items, each from a different sword? Who, in such a superstitious age, would screw up a gold crucifix? Why have them? What precipitated the burial? Why didn't the buryer return for the STASH?

It was time for a change of pace; sitting down to MANTRA in the SYMPHONY HALL, we were wafted back to India.

Reminded me of being left in a temple by friends (Indian) listening to classical music, while they left to go home. They were tired, it was 2am. The music here was similar; sublime. In India, I finally rolled home, on the back of a cycle rickshaw, at about 4am and had to climb over the night porter who was asleep on a camp bed across the hotel entrance.

We puddled about, eating a sushi takeaway, looking at stalls, watching Ballet and bands;

all sorts of bands and generally enjoying the atmosphere. By now we had lost Poppy, Brenda, Ann, Laurie, Amber, and Bea. We never managed to hook up with Ashley and the boys.

At dusk we all rejoined and went to a Weatherspoons for our evening meal. Mark came in and ate with us. It was a tight squeeze around the table.

Off again for a Symphony Spectacular care of the Birmingham S.O.

We all listened closely to the renditions,

It's a serious business!

WE ALL TURNED AROUND TO LOOK AT ...

THE FIREWORKS.
