23.7.10

Runrig, Lewis Saturday 18.7.10

It's the last day of the Celtic Festival and there's entertainment to be had all day.

The Art Centre in Stornoway, AN LANNTAIR, has a photographic exhibition of Murdo MacLeods' work going on and a good restaurant. We had lunch here overlooking the sea front.

A tight schedule today, we headed out to a nearbye town and the LEWIS HIGHLAND GAMES.

It was a bit sparse on the entertainment front and freezing cold, with intermittent driving rain.

Everyone wrapped up warmly and enjoyed the 'show'.

This was the best activity,

with plenty to keep me focussed, answering the age old question .....Well now you know;

knicky-knacky-knoos!

NEVER WAS A GIRL MORE RELIEVED AND DISAPPOINTED ALL IN ONE GO.

The noises these guys made reminded me of maternity wards.

Seemed to be about as exhausting as child birth too.

All the way through this, the LEWIS PIPE BAND played and marched about.

They were VERY GOOD.

How do they see where they're going?

Despite the coldness and wind,

they played on for quite a long time, they should rename themselves as STIFF LITTLE FINGERS.

We headed back to Stornoway past this lovely beach and the airport.

And with a few hours to kill before the Festival kicked off, we head for the harbour to look at the historic boat festival. It's pretty much over,

but there are these rotting boats lying in wait.

They are so lovely, I keep on clicking.

and walking. The lads went on ahead, to the Art Centre again.

It's great to see a fully functioning fishing fleet here too. It may be small,

but it's perfectly formed.

Across the water from the harbour sits the festival site, waiting for us,

and STORNOWAY CANOE CLUB'S MEETING UP POINT.

fell in love with this brand new, clinker dinghy. PERFECTION.

We had a fish and chip supper in the chippy opposite the festival office and checked our wristbands were in place. Then we took a stroll to the Festival for the last time

and joined all the other PERFECTLY NORMAL PEOPLE there

and prepared to enjoy ourselves.

So that's PINK FLOYD, MEATLOAF, HANK MARVIN AND THE SHADOWS ticked off . Sorry, what I meant to say was

RUNRIG

They sound like a generic band, good at what they do and OK for a night out, but only OK.

Mind you a bargain at about twenty quid.
