THE BUTT OF LEWIS Thursday 15.7.10

The weather finally broke, turning into a windswept, demon day. Nothing changed from dawn till dusk.

We headed out to our local beach, DAIL MOR,

with it's two cemeteries and crashing sea, it presented an awesome spectacle.

We took in the view,

and, well wrapped up,

I felt that I'd been sandblasted.

With our outer layer of skin exfoliated and our eyes smarting, we went on our tearfully, shiny faced way. Graham needed a post office. As we waited for Graham, this DOG IN A PHONE BOX waited to be released.

People came and went, no one took him away. More dogs followed in the form of a SHEEP DOG TRIAL. What a day to be out and competing.

MAD DOGS AND ENGLISH (SCOTTS) MEN ..

We headed to the north most point on the island and had lunch in the rain soaked car.

We made our way out into a full force gale under the guard of the LIGHTHOUSE.

The nesting KITTIWAKES with their young, tried to snuggle into the meagre turf without much luck.

The sea was a maelstrom today making it well worth the journey.

This TRAWLER had just rounded the point and was hugging the coast on it's way to STORNOWAY.

We checked out the info. board about the light house.

Time to move on before we were blown away. Making a short stop in PORT NIS,

a lovely, sheltered spot, to see what was there.

The reason for coming to STORNOWAY was to pick up our FESTIVAL TICKETS. We had three of them. There's four of us! OOOPPPPS!!! We got extra tickets, so it all came out well in the end. PHEW
: )

Tonight, it's the first night of the CELTIC FESTIVAL: should be fun.

No cameras allowed at the festival,

Graham gave me his phone

and a few simple instructions.

The results are pretty good,

but I'll take the tough camera tomorrow,

that'll make a real difference: NOT!!

The half time queue for the beer tent - needless to say we didn't touch a drop;
LIFE'S TOO SHORT TO STAND IN LINE

They need the WORKERS COOPERATIVE BEER PEOPLE.

These guys can sell beer to thousands -
FAST and that's not much to ask.
